Abstract
Enteric fever caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi and Paratyphi A and B, is endemic in the Indian sub-continent including Bangladesh, South-east and Far-east Asia, Africa and South Central America. The disease can occur in all age group with highest incidence among children. Widal test in clinically suspected enteric fever cases aged between 2 and 18 years We conducted a cross-sectional study over a period of 6 (Six) months following approval in the Department of Paediatric of Dhaka Shishu Hospital. The aim of this study is to evaluate the Sensitivity and Specificity of Widal test in Children with Enteric Fever. . Sample was collected from three groups: 1) Children suspected of enteric fever; 2) Febrile children (other than enteric fever) and 3) Non-febrile children. The sample size for this study was 50 children in each group. In all three groups around half of the participants were in the ‘≤ 5 years’ age group.
