Abstract
The present study was aimed to investigate the possible protective effect of cinnamon on the testis against high cholesterol diet of adult Wistar rats through biochemical and histopathological examination. Forty rats were used in the current study; they were divided into four groups. Each group contains ten rats group I is the negative control group, which did not receive any treatment, groupII. received cinnamon aqueous extract orally at 200 mg/kg/day dose for 30 days, groupIII is the induction group, which were fed with a high cholesterol diet (rat chow supplemented with 4% cholesterol and 1% cholic acid) for 30 days (positive control group) and group IV, which were fed with high cholesterol diet and received cinnamon aqueous extract for 30 days. At the end of experimental study, Blood samples were collected for biochemical assessment. Rats that received the HCD showed a significant increase in the cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein levels, and a significant decrease in the high-density lipoprotein level compared with the levels of the control group. These parameters significantly decreased, with the exception of high-density lipoprotein, which increased, in rats that received the HCD and cinnamon compared with those that received only the HCD .The lipid levels showed non significant change in rats that received cinnamon compared with the control group.
