Abstract
Vinegar may be defined as a condiment made from various sugary and starchy materials by alcoholic and subsequent acetic fermentation. Vinegar has been produced and sold for thousands of years, dating back to before the 6th century. Vinegars flavoured with fruit and honey was popular among the Babylonians. Hippocrates used vinegar as an antiseptic to treat wounds. This review will examine the therapeutic effects of vinegar including the antibacterial properties, anti-tumor effects, anti-diabetic effects, antioxidant activity and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
