Abstract
In the contemporary world, when media has become a part and parcel of everyone's life, the importance of films cannot be overlooked. Films as the most popular form of media not only entertain the masses but play a much larger role in educating and training them. The greatest lessons of life can be imbibed in the kids through films. To quote the words of D. Bhoopaty, “cinema is widely considered a microcosm of the social, political, economic, and cultural life of a nation. It is the contested site where meanings are negotiated, traditions made and remade, identities affirmed or rejected. Films are a best platform to acquire familiarity with the social political or cultural milieu of a country. Most importantly, they aim at a wider target audience than that of most novels and plays. Cinema in India too as a form of mass visual entertainment, reflects socio-cultural attitudes in a specific and vivid manner. The huge popularity of Bollywood movies is largely due to their cultural contribution in bringing people closer to this valuable treasure of India's cultural wealth and values. The present paper is an endeavour to explore the ways bollywood cinema has been impacting our cultural treasure with reference to the blockbuster movie Baghban. The attempt to is to look at and highlight the culturally rich message that this movie brings to the fore and rekindles a sense of pride in the dimming luster of our values.
