Abstract
This research sought to determine whether Jairos Jiri Association classified under “organisations for people with disabilities” and National Council of Disabled Persons of Zimbabwe (NCDPZ) falling under “organisations of people with disabilities” was effective or ineffective in advocacy and outreach about disability issues in Bulawayo. For this study case studies were used because the focus was on gathering data from each item under study and then doing a comparison. Questionnaires and interviews were used as research instruments. Data was analysed thematically through categorisation to compare the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of Jairos Jiri and NCDPZ. The research revealed that physical disability and albinism were represented in the study; with physical disability being dominant. The study recommended that Jairos Jiri and NCDPZ cater for the needs of other disabilities through inclusion and involvement in disability programmes. The study suggested to NCDPZ and Jairos Jiri to encourage disabled persons to take up posts in the journalism profession to ensure informed reporting of disability issues in the media; and training to include disability studies.
