Abstract
Witchcraft, a primitive religious phenomenon dating to the origins of mankind, has not vanished in the modern era, but survives in many places, including rural China. This article examines patterns of witchcraft in certain west China villages and shows that it still plays a vital role in the lives of rural peoples and their cultures.
