With the universal trend of urbanization the Urban-rural integration, this paper reviews the previous research on the management system of metropolitan areas at home and abroad, and then summarizes the different theories and policies in this field. Next, this paper analyzes some successful cases of developed countries and regions to sum up their realistic experience. At last, as one of the most significant economic center in the Southwest China, C City is provided with some recommendations for the reform of management system that are based on the analysis about the evolution process and characteristics of C City metropolitan area in China by this paper, which may have certain reference for management of metropolitan areas, especially in developing countries.
