Abstract
The thrust of this study explored the predictive effects of abusive supervision on organizational cynicism and counterproductive workplace behaviour among waste management workers in Anambra State. Responses of two hundred and ninety (209) waste management workers whose ages ranged from 27 years to 41 years with average age of 32 years and standard deviation of 1.05 were obtained through a simple randomization technique with abusive supervision scale by Tepper, organizational cynicism scale by Dean, Brandes and Dharwadkar and counterproductive workplace behaviour scale by Spector and Fox. Hypotheses were tested using regression analysis as statistical tool. The result indicated that abusive supervision significantly and positively predicted both organizational cynicism and counterproductive workplace behaviour at β = .34, p < .05 and β = .27, p < .05 (n = 209) respectively. Employee abuse of any form is known to precipitate varying negative organizational antecedents and as such, management is advised to engage workers to ventilate their grievances in order to reduce effects of abusive supervision for the good of the organization.
