Abstract
This study explored and identifies the strengths and weaknesses of traditional institutions in peacebuilding and conflict transformation in Mashonaland Central Province in Zimbabwe. The study employed a mixed method approach combining questionnaires with community members, focus group discussions with traditional chief`s council members and in-depth interviews with traditional chiefs. The findings indicate that traditional institutions have more strengths than weaknesses in peacebuilding and conflict transformation programmes. The study recommended that there is need to come up with a policy framework which encompasses both African traditional models and western models in modern day life.
