Abstract
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease resulting in reversible obstruction and hyperresponsive airways to various stimuli with recurrent symptoms. It is the most common chronic disease in pediatrics. In our study we try to analyze the impact of corona virus on prevalence and severity of asthma exacerbations Methods: we have conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional study that involved the records of children aged 6 months and older who were consulted for asthma exacerbation in the pediatric emergency unit of the children's hospital in Rabat, Morocco, during a 3-month period from November 2020 to January 2021. A total of 208 patients were included in the analysis. Result: 60% of known asthma patients had no asthma exacerbation, 10.8% between 1 and 2 exacerbation and a maximum of 5 exacerbation in 3.1% of children, and in the same period 18.5% of patients require hospitalization. In conclusion: The prevalence of hospitalizations for asthma attacks is decreased during the quarantine period.
