Abstract
The objectives of the study are to find out the effect of direct method on the students reading narrative at the fourth semester of Universitas Harapan Medan. The number of students is 40 students. One class becomes the experimental group and the second of eleventh class as the control group. This research used experiment research. Direct method can give significant effect on the students’ reading mastery. It also made the students more social and active, more independent in the classroom and made the students more interested in the subject as well.
