Abstract
Quadriceps angle is defined as the angle formed by the vector for the combined pull of the quadriceps f muscle and the patellar tendon. The aim of the study was to analyse the effect of age and gender on quadriceps angle. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 600 healthy individuals. Subjects with any present or past history of trauma, degenerative disorders, structural deformity, inflammatory condition of bilateral lower extremities and spine were excluded. Quadriceps angle was measured using goniometric method in supine lying position bilaterally. Of the 600 participants, 300 were males and 300 females. There was a statistically significant negative correlation (r = -0.232, p = 0.000) between age and right limb quadriceps angle. Also, it was observed that women have greater value quadriceps angle than men in both right (p = 0.000) and left limb (p = 0.000). The present study showed that there was an inverse relationship between age and quadriceps angle. The gender difference in quadriceps angle was statistically significant with greater quadriceps angle in women than men. Evaluation of quadriceps angle is an essential component to assess the knee function and alignment.
