Abstract
Odisha is one of the largest epigraphical records in India after the state Tamil Nadu. There are huge numbers of inscriptions found in Odisha. The inscriptions are in varied script. From those inscriptions it has clear that the evolution in script can be easily studied here. Though there is availability of written records particularly the epigraphic in Odisha it has not used in history writing because of lack of knowledge in palaeography. Because of variation it has clearly indicate that the script was influencing the language it nearby. Through the inscriptional study the history of Odisha can be written. In this paper we will focus the importance of epigraphic study and the study made by various scholars has been made.
