Abstract
Introduction: Tibial plateau fractures are severe intra-articular injuries that threaten knee function. This study aimed to analyse their epidemiological features, management and functional outcomes in our department. Methods: Retrospective study of 50 patients treated for a tibial plateau fracture between July 2025 and August 2026. Fractures were classified according to Schatzker, and outcomes were assessed using the Merle d’Aubigné and Mazas criteria. Results: Mean age was 41 years (17–68) and 64% of patients were men. Road traffic accidents accounted for 84% of cases. Schatzker types II (32%) and III (24%) predominated. Forty-seven patients (94%) underwent surgery. At a mean follow-up of 18 months (6–36), functional outcomes were good or very good in 84% of cases. Satisfactory outcomes were more frequent in patients aged 55 years or younger (93% vs 25%, p < 0.001) and in unicondylar fractures (97% vs 53%, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Surgical treatment of tibial plateau fractures yields good outcomes. Age over 55 years and complex fractures (Schatzker V and VI) are associated with poorer functional results.
