Abstract
Vestibular schwannoma, also known as acoustic neuroma, is a benign tumor arising from the vestibular nerve. Sudden hearing loss revealing this condition is rare, as the disease often develops insidiously, it is usually above 30 dB, involving three or more contiguous frequencies, and sets in in less than three days. We report the case of sudden right-sided hearing loss in a 31-year-old patient; the finding of ipsilateral vestibular areflexia without true vertigo provided further grounds for performing magnetic resonance imaging, which revealed a Koos stage 3 vestibular schwannoma. This case illustrates the major importance of imaging in early diagnosis and appropriate management of vestibular schwannoma.
