Abstract
The well-being of the unemployed was strongly correlated with the unemployment of the reference group (regional, partner or household). This result, much stronger for men, is strong for uncoordinated controls of an uncooperative individual. Data plate also shows that those who fell their welfare more than others when entering unemployment are less likely to remain unemployed. These results suggest a psychological explanation for both polarization of unemployment and underdevelopment, based on the implications of changing the base of work in the reference group.
