Abstract
Abstract: The present study was carried out to evaluate both the ethanol and water extracts of entire plant Euphorbia hirta (Family: Euphorbiaceae) for its anti-diarrheal potential against some of the experimental model of diarrhea in rats. The plant showed significant inhibitatory activity against castor-oil-induced diarrhea and PGE2 induced enteropooling in rats. Both the extracts of the plant also showed a significant reduction in gastrointestinal motility in both BaSO4 and charcoal meal tests. The results obtained established the anti-diarrheal potential of the entire plant though the ethanol extract proofed more potential than the water counter part.
