Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

Abstract
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is one of the most serious infections of women today occurs in large
number of women per year in developing countries. The study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of structured
teaching programme on knowledge regarding pelvic inflammatory disease among women of reproductive age. The
community based pre-experimental one group pretest posttest study design which was conducted among 60 women of
reproductive age in urban community of Mangalore city, India. The pre-test level of knowledge showed that 61.7%
subjects had poor, 38.3% subjects had average and none of them had good level of knowledge. Whereas in the post-test
86.7% subjects had good and 13.3% subjects had average and none of them had poor level of knowledge. The total mean
percentage of pre-test was 32.6 with mean and SD 9.78 ± 3.97 and the total mean percentage of post-test 76.5 with mean
and SD 22.95 ± 2.83. There was significant association between pre-test level of knowledge and type of the family and
educational status of the women (p<0.05).The study concluded that structured teaching programme was effective in
improving the knowledge of reproductive age group women regarding pelvic inflammatory disease.
