Abstract
Intra-articular fractures are known to develop delayed arthritis in weight bearing joints. Distal tibia is a high velocity injury which needs fixation with low profile plates which can be applied with minimal dissection respecting the poor skin coverage. We conducted a prospective study with sample size of 30 patients to evaluate the outcome of type 2 and 3 AO distal tibia fractures treated with MIPPO technique and the short and long term complications related to it. Delayed union was found in 37 % beyond 20 weeks although none needed bone grafting. The AO type C fractures are prone to develop arthritis in lesser proportion with maximum type C fractures having good Olerud Molander scores, whereas AO type B has consistently shown good results with MIPPO technique.
