The present study was designed to investigate the anti-alzheimer’s activity of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba fruit in mice. The two exteroceptive models, scopolamine (1mg/kg) and diazepam (1mg/kg) induced amnesia were used to study the anti-alzheimer’s effect of ethanolic fruit extract of Cyamopsis tetragoloba (CTFE) at the oral dose of 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg in Wistar albino mice. Piracetam (400mg/kg) was used as a standard drug. After completion of the 10 days respective treatments, scopolamine induced amnesia model showed the better activity in all the three; Elevated plus maze, Radial arm maze and Y maze parameters. The CFE at a dose of 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg, improved memory in a dose dependent manner. In scopolamine and diazepam induced amnesia model, biochemical parameters like lipid hydroperoxide (P<0.05) and malondialdehyde (P<0.01) levels were significantly decreased with administration of CFE (400mg/kg) when compared to scopolamine control. Whereas, acetylcholinesterase (P<0.01) level was significantly increased when compared to scopolamine control on administration of CFE (400mg/kg). In-vivo antioxidants like superoxide dismutase, reduced glutathione and catalase were decreased on inducing amnesia by scopolamine and diazepam when compared to normal group. Treatment with 400mg/kg of CFE significantly increased the levels of superoxide dismutase (P<0.05), reduced glutathione (P<0.05) and catalase (P<0.05) when compared to negative controls. From the results it was concluded that the ethanolic fruit extract of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba elicits anti-alzheimer’s activity in experimental animal models.

Background: Anemia management is complicated in patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis. Clinical pharmacists have been involved in the care of ESRD patients in various settings. Aims of the study: The aim of this study was to explore the therapeutic and pharmacoeconomic outcome of a clinical pharmacist- implemented anemia management in dialysis patients through a randomized, controlled, open label design clinical study. Methods: The study was carried out over a period of three months at renal /hemodialysis unit of King Hussein Medical Center at the Royal Medical Services. A total 203 patients of both genders on hemodialysis were randomized into an intervention or control arm, 102 patients were allocated to the intervention arm and 101 patients to the control arm. In the intervention arm, patients received physician-pharmacist collaborative care. In the control arm, patients received usual care. Results: In this study, clinical pharmacist interventions had a positive impact on achieving target goal of Hb concentrations among HD patients. The percent of patients who achieved target Hb and Hct at the end of the study was 87.2% in the intervention arm versus 36.6% in the control arm, p = 0.02). Patients in the intervention arm used less epoetin α, leading to a savings of 5723.4 JD. The average amount of epoetin α vials used in the intervention arm was significantly lower than that in the control arm (p = 0.002). Conclusion: Clinical pharmacists can positively contribute to the care of ESRD patients and reduce the gaps in current patient care.

We report the case of a left pubic osteochondroma in a 55-year-old man, without any particular pathological history, which revealed itself as a painful left laterotesticular induration. This induration increased in volume and bothered the patient during daily activities. The CT scan was in favor of a left pedunculated pubic osteochondroma pushing back the spermatic cord. Surgical resection of the tumor confirmed the diagnosis of an osteochondroma.

The urachus is a fibrous residue of the allantois that disappears after birth. In some cases, it may persist, which is called urachus abnormalities. This persistence of the urachus is manifested by abdominal pain and can be signalled by complications, of which infection is the most common complication. Infection can be misunderstood and confused with other pathologies, especially when associated with abdominal pain. In our case, we report an observation of an infected urachal cyst, revealed by febrile abdominal pain and swelling.
