Abstract
The article explains the rise of the radical group, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) in Southeast Asian archipelago which gave a remarkable boost to the explosion of radical religious discourse. This terrorist group is selected because, unlike the challenges and terrorism of the past in the region, it represents the origin of the first terrorist organisation that is so well connected with other terrorist groups. The paper is divided into five parts- the ideology, epicentre of recruitment, structure, network and operations of JI which provides basis for its connectivity with other like-minded movements or organisations in the region. In order to understand the nature of the JI’s working in Southeast Asia, a brief examination of JI’s ideological foundation that provides material resources to regenerate itself is also required.
