In today's globalization, the development of cities is closely related. More and more cities choose the road of regional coordinated development. On the one hand, it is the need of their own development to conform to the trend of the times. On the other hand, it is an inevitable choice under the condition of uncoordinated urban development. Among them, the leading role of the central city is of great significance to the regional development. This article focuses on the development of regional leading role, combining with the empirical analysis of Shanghai, a central city in China, to make a systematic exposition of the direction of the ability of the central city.
