The aesthetic demand of our patients has become more and more pressing. Every day we meet a growing demand for improving the quality of the smile. To meet these expectations, modern dentistry requires the acquisition of new knowledge and technologies. Laser-assisted therapy is gradually establishing itself as one of the new standards of this modern dentistry. Dental lasers today offer real advantages over traditional techniques, allowing them to improve and optimize the final therapeutic result. The contribution of the laser (diode) in cosmetic dental surgery will be detailed per and postoperatively through two clinical cases of frenectomy and gingival depigmentation.

Background: Ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic neoplasm of the mandible and maxilla, with multiple histologic variants, and high recurrence rates if improperly treated. Objective: To evaluate the various clinical and radiological behavior (2D & 2D) of histologically diagnosed ameloblastoma with or without impacted teeth. Materials and Methods: The present hospital-based retrospective study was conducted by reviewing the clinical and radiographic records of ameloblastoma cases from 2018 to 2021, available in the archives of the department. A total of 21 patients were analyzed were grouped into 1 and 2 on the basis of radiographic findings, ameloblastoma with impacted teeth and without impacted teeth. Results: We observed that the patients affected with ameloblastoma were in the age-group of 21–40 yrs. The male: female ratio was 1.5:1 in group 1 and 3:1 in group 2. The posterior mandible (70% in group 1 and 100% in group 2) was more commonly affected than the maxilla. Multilocular appearance was seen in 75% of group 2 and 10% of group 1 cases. Effect on adjacent teeth like displacement (70%), knife edge root resorption (70%) and loss of lamina dura (90%) were most commonly associated with group 1 compared to group 2. Conclusion: Ameloblastoma is usually benign tumors. Thorough history along with clinical examination and interpretation of radiographs are necessary to diagnosis this lesion accurately for early treatment and better prognosis.

In modern orthodontics, several types of designs for bone anchored expansion appliances have been developed with the objective to increase the amount of skeletal expansion with rapid palatal expansion. In the present review, the skeletal and dental effects of rapid palatal expansion have been evaluated immediately following expansion and in the long-standing interval following expansion. The effects of conventional rapid palatal expansion appliances are compared with bone anchored maxillary expansion appliances and tooth-bone anchored maxillary expansion appliances. Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs), or mini-screws, or mini-implants are used for the insertion of bone anchored and tooth-bone anchored maxillary expansion appliances. These lead to higher forces on the bone while expansion is undertaken and consequently more orthopedic effects. This article will discuss how the modern bone anchored expansion appliance used in modern orthodontics compare to conventional rapid palatal expansion appliances.

Cone beam computed tomography imaging in orthodontics has its advantages and disadvantages. The choice to use cone beam computed tomography imaging is made after weighing the risks and the necessity of this choice of imaging for the patient. Quantifying the radiation dose and evaluating its side effects continues to be reevaluated over the time. Reducing the radiation dose to as low as possible to get the required results has been of utmost importance. Protection to both the clinicians and technicians on basis of regular exposure has guidelines issued. Protection to patients is also given equal importance.

Granulomatous cheilitis of Miescher (GCM) is a swelling of the lips that can either be primary or secondary to an underlying disease. The objective of this paper was to report the difficulty of the etiological diagnosis and the various treatments available to treat this challenging condition. Observation: A 53-year-old female patient presented for a chronic swelling of the lower lip with no evidence of tooth infection. Biopsy found multiple epithelioid granulomatous foci with giant cells and without caseous necrosis. Treatment with intralesional injections of celestene chronodose was performed and has led to a significant improvement of the situation. Discussion: the diagnosis of GCM is often difficult and challenging but remains essential for the treatment. Occurrences are frequent.
